Our Roots Run Deep…
Drawing on four generations of Ottawa Valley craftsmanship and forest stewardship, H.W. Heideman Co. reinvents our family’s legacy through innovative, sustainable wood products. Founded by Basil Heideman’s fine woodworking and carried forward by Bert Heideman’s leadership in regional forestry, today under Hunter W. Heideman we focus on creating turnkey, value-added solutions from low-grade hardwoods—turning what was once underutilized into exceptional, market-ready materials.
Our flagship offering is ready-to-use fuelwood, meticulously processed from local hardwood residues. By kiln-drying, splitting, and grading these “low-value” species into uniform bundles, we deliver clean, efficient heating solutions that outperform traditional firewood—saving our customers time, money, and hassle while promoting a circular, waste-free forest economy.
Complementing our fuelwood line, we maintain an in-stock inventory of quality rough-cut lumber, available by the board-foot to meet builders’, crafters’, and landowners’ needs at a moment’s notice. For more bespoke requirements, our custom milling and contract sawing services transform your logs into precisely dimensioned boards, beams, or specialty profiles—all finished to spec and ready for framing, furniture, or fine carpentry.
Our Mission
To honor our heritage by delivering locally sourced, sustainable wood products that turn every log into value—fuel, stock lumber, and custom-sawn timber—while safeguarding the forests that sustain us. Choose H.W. Heideman Co. for reliable supply, expert milling, and eco-driven practices that keep the Ottawa Valley’s woodlands healthy for generations to come.

Hunter W. Heideman is the fourth generation in a proud family legacy of forestry and craftsmanship rooted in the Ottawa Valley. With deep family ties to the land and an unshakable commitment to sustainability, Hunter founded H.W. Heideman Co. to carry forward this tradition with a modern vision for the future.
Hunter’s story begins with the legacy of his great-grandfather, Basil Heideman, a renowned local carpenter whose craftsmanship laid the foundation for generations of excellence. His grandfather, Bert Heideman, was a pivotal figure in the local forestry industry and a founding member of the BMSFA (Bonnechere Madawaska Sustainable Forestry Alliance), helping shape sustainable forestry practices in the region. Today, Hunter’s father, Craig Heideman, continues to lead the family’s logging business, B. Heideman & Sons Logging Inc., embodying the dedication and hard work that has become synonymous with the Heideman name.
Carrying this legacy forward, Hunter launched H.W. Heideman Co., a full-service forestry contractor specializing in scarifying and reforestation, harvesting, road building, land clearing, and custom milling. His work reflects both his family’s values and his innovative approach to forestry, combining sustainable practices with modern technology to leave a positive impact on the land.
Hunter’s career began on the ground, managing the transportation of materials at B. Heideman & Sons Inc., where he developed a deep understanding of the industry’s complexities. He later expanded his expertise as a Quality Control Technician for Green Infrastructure Partners, mastering advanced testing methods to ensure the integrity of construction materials. His ability to combine technical knowledge with customer care was further evident in his role as a Product Specialist with Pride Marine Group, where he built strong client relationships and delivered premium products.
With H.W. Heideman Co., Hunter brings together his rich heritage, hands-on experience, and passion for sustainable forestry. Leading a team of skilled professionals, he is committed to delivering exceptional results while honoring the traditions and values passed down through his family.

Adapting to a Sustainable Future
The forestry industry is undergoing a significant transformation as communities and governments prioritize environmental stewardship. H.W. Heideman Co. recognizes this shift and has aligned its operations to meet the growing demand for sustainable land management. By focusing on reforestation, scarifying, and infrastructure development, the company not only supports the environment but also provides services that will remain essential in a greener economy.
Reforestation and Scarifying: With governments and private sectors increasingly requiring land rehabilitation, H.W. Heideman Co.’s expertise in these areas positions it as a trusted partner in rebuilding ecosystems and meeting sustainability mandates.
Infrastructure Development: Services like road building and land clearing remain indispensable for accessing remote areas, supporting rural development, and enabling sustainable harvesting operations. These services provide steady revenue, independent of raw timber market fluctuations.
Reducing Dependency on Timber Markets
The company’s focus on value-added services, like custom milling, allows it to control more of the production process, offering high-quality, tailored lumber directly to local clients and niche markets. This not only generates higher margins but also reduces reliance on large mills and their volatile pricing structures.
Additionally, by cultivating long-term relationships with clients, municipalities, and conservation authorities, H.W. Heideman Co. ensures a steady pipeline of work in areas like infrastructure maintenance and land restoration, further insulating itself from the cyclical nature of raw timber demand.
